Kancare embraced the vibrant spirit of Onam across all three centers - Kalamassery, Kakkanad, and Vyttila - with celebrations filled with joy, togetherness, and community spirit. A special highlight of the celebrations was the enthusiastic participation of our residents. They took an active role in various cultural and festive programmes, showcasing their talents, sharing their creativity, and contributing to the celebrations in meaningful ways. From songs and dances to shared conversations and festive activities, the Onam celebrations created many moments of happiness and connection. More importantly, they provided residents with opportunities to socialize, participate actively, and create cherished memories together. The festivities beautifully reflected the spirit of Onam - togetherness, joy, and celebrating the bonds within our Kancare family.
At Kancare, we believe that quality care begins with continuous learning. Throughout August, weekly training sessions were conducted for our staff, providing regular opportunities to strengthen their knowledge, develop their skills, and enhance their caregiving practices. The sessions focused on building staff competencies and supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate, and person-centred care to our residents. Continuous professional development enables our care teams to respond more effectively to residents’ individual needs while maintaining high standards of care. These regular learning initiatives reflect Kancare’s ongoing commitment to staff development, continuous improvement, and excellence in resident care.
Throughout August, Kancare continued to focus on creating meaningful and engaging experiences for our residents through a variety of group and individual activities. Activities were planned according to residents’ abilities, interests, and individual needs, with an emphasis on social interaction, creativity, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being. In preparation for Onam, residents enthusiastically participated in group song practices, dance preparations, and conversations about their childhood memories and past Onam celebrations. These sessions encouraged residents to reminisce, share personal experiences, express themselves, and connect with one another. Such activities not only brought enjoyment to everyday routines but also helped residents maintain a sense of belonging, purpose, participation, and connection within the Kancare community.
August also brought opportunities for meaningful community interaction and shared learning, as students from Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kochi, visited Kancare’s Kakkanad and Kalamassery centers. The visits gave the students an opportunity to learn more about the functioning of the centres and gain valuable exposure to dementia care and elderly support services. Through their interactions with residents and staff, the students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of compassion, empathy, and person-centred care when supporting older adults. The visits also created opportunities for residents and students to connect, share experiences, and learn from one another. As a gesture of love and appreciation, the students were warmly welcomed, and their interaction with our residents was celebrated as a meaningful community experience. At Kancare, we value such connections that help bridge generations, encourage learning, and build greater awareness about dementia and elderly care within the wider community. These interactions remind us that learning extends beyond the classroom and that meaningful connections can enrich the lives of both young people and older adults.
